What Are UTM Parameters?
UTM (Urchin Tracking Module) parameters are simple tags that you add to the end of a URL. When someone clicks on a URL with these tags, they send specific information back to your Google Analytics account, allowing you to accurately track the performance of your marketing campaigns.
The 5 Standard UTM Parameters
- Campaign Source (utm_source):: The referrer of the traffic (e.g. google, newsletter, facebook).
- Campaign Medium (utm_medium):: The marketing medium (e.g. cpc, email, social).
- Campaign Name (utm_name):: The specific campaign you are running (e.g. summer_sale, new_product_launch).
- Campaign Term (utm_term):: Used to identify the keywords you paid for in a PPC ad.
- Campaign Content (utm_content):: Used to differentiate similar content or links within the same ad. For example, if you have two call-to-action links in one email.
